Use this Blueprint to Jump-Start your Social Media Marketing

Marketing your construction company on social media is not the way of the future anymore, you should be going all-in on social media today. Wondering where to start, what to post, how to engage with an audience. This is a very daunting task when you first start, wondering how to manage your channel, how to build an audience, where do I begin?

This Blueprint is laid it out step by step with what to post on social for 28 days and when you are done I guarantee you will boost your following, engagement, and leads on your social media profiles. Think of this Blueprint as a Social Media “Jig” for your profile, which takes a little bit of planning, preparing, and time to get started. But like using a construction jig, once you get moving it builds momentum and makes the job faster, easier, and better.

I have created the top tips for when you are following the Social Media For Home Builders Blueprint. Remember to have fun with this, and let your authentic personality shine through.

Photography Tips:
Any phone after 2017 can take pretty good photos and video, especially if you use a stability device like a tripod. Use natural lighting when possible and your background counts. You don’t have to spend a bunch of money on fancy backgrounds, just make sure your background is clutter-free, quiet, and portrays the image you are going for. Make sure to be authentic in all your videos, and that will get easier with time.
When taking photos of your construction site, or finished project it is very important to take photos when the sun is out. When you are on the job site and you feel that sun blazing down on your back think *this is a great time to take photos!

When busting out your phone remember to use the right orientation for the social network you are posting to. For example, Landscape Orientation is best for Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Where Portrait Orientation works great for Instagram, Pinterest, and Snapchat. If you are taking photos for your website use Landscape Orientation for best results and less editing.

Video Tips:
I can’t say it enough, be authentic and you will attract people to you. It is also easier to be consistent if you don’t have to pretend to be someone else. If you are you, you’re you and people will gravitate toward you faster than if you are fake. When making How-To videos keep it simple as the less information you try to teach the easier it is to understand.

Start with small How-To projects like cleaning gutters, or washing vinyl siding; that way your viewers can apply it easily. Research with a keyword service to determine how much potential traffic you could reach. You want to make videos that people are searching for.

Get video testimonials from your customers. Talk about building instant trust and social proof is a happy customer telling their story about how you helped them. Write down questions to ask and edit yourself out for a great video testimonial. You can also hire someone to edit your video content for professional results depending on your budget.

Editing Tips:
Using software to edit your photos or videos is important. Using your branding, place some short text, graphics, and stickers to your images to make them stand out. I use Adobe Spark Post and Spark Video which is a paid service, but you can use (and I recommend) Canva for free and get great results. Most of these design software have mobile Apps that make editing on the fly quick and easy. If you use a photo filter in an App, it is recommended to always use the same filter for branding purposes.

What Social Platforms:
How many social media platforms should I post to? If you are asking this question then I recommend starting with two channels, learn all you can for those two channels and then move on to posting on one more, then another, then…well you get the idea. I recommend starting with LinkedIn and Facebook as you can get a lot of reach with a little work. 

#hashtag:
When creating your company hashtag remember to do research and make sure you are not trying to use a trademark. Use something easy with your business name integrated but not too long. Make your hashtag catchy and memorable, and make sure to use it. Do you want to really stand apart from the competition?
